After taking the placement test 3 times, i ended up in math 950. I pretty much accepted my fate at this time, until i met a lady in my nighborhood helped tutor me. I paid her good money out of my pocket for a solid 2 months, 3 times a week. I took the placement test one more time, placing in math 990. I was pretty excited. I then found out i could take it ONE more time. I studied for another month, and this time to my surprise, i MADE IT TO MATH 1010!!!
I would go to the tutor center offten for help. When i was there, i realised that in order for me to get the help i needed, somehow the other students would need to be taken care of first. I started to help other students in the center so that by the time the tutor was done with his current student, i could hog all their time:) Worked great. I shortly realized, that after helping the other students, my knowledge of math seemed to stick better. So i became a tutor myself. I believe that if you want to understand something, learn to teach it.
I was a tutor for a few months when an opportunity for me to teach at a local high school opened up. I took the job and LOVED it. I was there for 5 years teaching anatomy and math. For all of the 5 years i was there, i also ran the after school credit recovery and tutoring program. This is where Blake, my co-worker and i mae the biggest difference. Parents signed up their students for 2 hour blocks, where we would teach them one on one, no more than 4 at a time. We would teach RIGHT out of the college textbooks, giving the students an advantage. I taught many a students calc 1, 2, trig, math 100 and 1050 right out of my very own books from SLCC. These classes were fully accredited as well.
Below are pictures of my graduating classes:)
